Phoneography: the rise of camera phone imaging & Apps for photographers
Krystal Radlinski, M.Photog.Cr.
They say “The best camera is the one you have with you” and now for most that means tablets and camera phones! So what can you do with all of these images you have been taking for yourself, as street art, artwork on the fly and to communicate with your clients?
After having a baby I can definitely attest that I take way more photos with my phone camera, rather than busting out my pro-rig once or twice a day for candid moments and observations on the fly.
We will go through phone lenses, adapters, and some Apps to help transform these snapshots into creative artwork and photos worth keeping. Students are encouraged to load their phones with a handful of images and some photo editing apps to play with during the class!
Now how do we share these images? Should we be sharing them on sites like Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest? What are all those hash tags (###) about? Discussion on the pros and cons of sharing sites and their uses. What creative communities are out there for phoneographers?
There are also a new breed of Apps specifically for professional photographers and small business owners. We will go through some of these revolutionary Apps here and on the horizon for billing, sales, modeling releases and marketing your photography. It’s really exciting to see what is out there!
How big can they go? Printing and finished products from phone and tablet images.
This class isn’t primarily about the work you do for your clients, it’s about what to do with the hundreds of photos you take a month with the ubiquitous phone camera. Let’s remember to play!
We can even set up a #TallyFPP hashtag to share the images we take or edit during class!
About the Speaker
Krystal got her start with a degree from University of Florida in photojournalism and as a photojournalist for the United States Army. They sent her to Bosnia, Kosovo, Ecuador, and other armpits of the planet. She figured, “Hey, at least you’re less likely to encounter sniper fire during a wedding. Let’s do it!”Along with her husband Matt, surly cat “Half-Price” and the worst productivity assistant ever, her 10-month old son Leo, she has run a Gainesville area home-studio specializing in weddings, portraits and luxurious album designs for the past ten years.
During those 12 years, Krystal has been awarded Florida’s Top Ten Photographers three times, two Fuji Masterpiece Awards, a Kodak Gallery Award, and degreed a Master Photographer and Photographic Craftsman by the Professional Photographers of America, PPA Platinum Photographer of The Year twice and the Accolade of Photographic Mastery Medal by Wedding and Portrait Photographers International. Her mom also made her some yummy cookies just for being nice. You can see her image portfolio at www.vervestudio.com or for the most up-to-date imagery on their blog www.vervestudioblog.com
