Flashes, Files and Fast Glass
Understanding the technical stuff that will make you a better photographer

Photography can be hard. There’s lots of numbers, big words and sometimes even math. Truthfully, some of the best photographers in the world don’t understand it all. You are not alone.

This is the program that will help you finally understand so many of the concepts that you’ve struggled with! With humor and real-world examples, Booray will finally help you understand those photography terms and concepts that you are embarrassed to admit you’ve never quite understood. You’ll come away from his program smarter and most importantly, you’ll come away a better photographer as Booray teaches you why these concepts are vital and how you can use them to elevate your work to new levels!

This is the program for everyone who has an eye for photography but hates all the technical stuff.

Just a few of the things you’ll learn:

What’s the difference between the metering modes on my camera? How do they work and when should I use each one?

What does “The camera renders for neutral grey” really mean? How does it affect me and what should I do about it?

DPI-PPI-Print Size…. Finally understand what the numbers mean and how to size images for online and printing.

Full-frame, Crop Sensor, Micro four-thirds… What should I use and why? What’s the difference really?

Hi-speed sync, Rear curtain sync, dragging the shutter… what’s it all mean and how do I use it?

Do I really need “Fast Glass?” Why?

The infamous Inverse Square Law and how it will save you at a wedding or group shot.

…. And more!

You’re guaranteed to learn something you didn’t know. Impress your friends at parties! Get your knowledge on with Flashes, Files and Fast Glass: Understanding the technical stuff that will make you a better photographer

Bio:

Booray Perry had it all figured out.

After a 20-year career in radio, he retired from being a “wacky morning man” to move to Florida, get married and start a family. He became a stay-at-home-Dad with a wife that brought home the bacon with a successful real-estate business.

Then in 2007, the housing market collapsed.

In two months they were out-of-business. So, Booray went back to his childhood passion, picked up the camera he had used when he was yearbook photographer in high school and started a photography business. Now he shoots about 100 weddings and events a year and teaches photography and lighting nationwide. Using his ability to talk non-stop for hours, humor and years of experience, Booray is sought after by photographers who struggle with mastering the tools of the trade and understanding the concepts needed to be successful.

Booray Perry is owner/operator of Booray Perry Photography in Tampa, FL. He is a Certified Professional Photographer (CPP), Photography Craftsman, PPA Councilor and Wedding/Event Photographer of the Year Tampa Area Professional Photographers Association 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017.

In addition to being a featured platform speaker at Imaging USA, he also hosts the Grand Imaging Awards and “Imaging USA LIVE” during the annual photography convention.

He also hosts the webcast, “IPC Live” during the four days of judging the International Print Competition and his podcast, “Photobomb” can be heard on Itunes, Google Play, Buzzsprout and Pocketcasts.

Bio:

I am the mother of 4 insanely crazy, sweet kids, lover of everything gold, the beach, sunsets, I may have an online shopping addiction, love to run, chips & salsa (and really any Mexican food), and sleep (which I don’t get much of lately)! Photography is my love (obviously besides my kids & fam) – anything that can keep my attention for going on almost 10 years now has to be special. You can guarantee I am constantly taking in everything there is to learn, in order to make my clients’ portraits amazing, striving constantly to give them the best experience possible, and always thinking of how I would feel in their shoes so that I can really give the best of everything I have to give. I am honestly honored each time I get to go out and capture each families’ memories. I am a proud member of the NAPCP & PPA and am also a Click Pro!

May 2018 Meeting and Print Competition

When: Monday, May 21st 6pm-9pm
Where: Backwoods Bistro, Tallahassee, FL

This month’s TPPG meeting is all about salon prep! It’s competition season and to help prep for Salon in June we are having a special review session on May 21. Kira and Linda will help lead a discussion on how to prepare and polish your works so that they can maximize their potential for panel judging in June.

The board has created a special dropbox folder where you can upload your images. Please select 3-4 images that you are interested in having reviewed. These can include images from our past guild meetings that you have used in print competition or all new images we have yet to see. Our goal is to get through as many as possible in the time allotted but we will at least touch on something from everyone who submits.

When submitting use your name in the title of the image as well as numbering them. Example:

StevenSaccio01.jpg
StevenSaccio02.jpg
StevenSaccio03.jpg

This is for ease of tracking and to make sure we get to everyone, however, because both Linda and Kira are serving as a judges later in the year we will not reveal the creators name while discussing the image. If the creator has no plans of entering other events or if they are okay with the possibility of one of them disqualifying her vote from Judging the creator may chose to reveal themselves when the image appears.

It is not mandatory to have a digital mat and border on the image, however we do suggest completing this step so we can fully critique them. Kira has created a helpful video on how to set these up at the following link:

When uploading make sure the images are an appropriate web ready size so we can quickly download all of them on the day of the meeting.

Also, please remember this meeting is purely for the benefit of education. Our opinions, while based on our own experience and education in competition, are subjective. It is by no means our intention to tear down anyones work, but we may have suggestions as to why an image might be better suited as a “Sell-able” vs “Salon-able” image. We also encourage everyone in attendance to ask questions as well as provide helpful feedback or ideas.

I added all the members from the guild to the “Edit” section of the drop box link. You should have received an email but here also is a direct link.

The deadline for uploading images is 11:59pm on Sunday the 20th.

Also! Don’t forget about our standard monthly Print Comp! That will still take place like every month for the first 30 minutes of the meeting. So order those prints soon!

Please let me or any of the board members know if you have any questions. Looking forward to a stellar batch of images!
