APRIL SPEAKER INFORMATION: Carrie Viohl is back by popular demand!!!  Carrie owns a portrait studio in South Georgia, where she and her staff have been surprising and delighting their clients for nearly a decade.

Light is the most basic element of photography, and understanding how to see light, and predict how it will affect your photographs is fundamental to photography skills; but also one of the hardest to truly master. Studio lighting, on-location lighting, lighting at midnight, and lighting at noon all still follow the same basic rules, and when you understand them, your portraits will jump to the next level! Carrie will use her photos, your photos, and some famous photos to talk about the many great (and terrible)
things that lighting can do for your portraiture. Please submit a few of your own images if you want for Carrie to use some of your work as examples / critique during the presentation!

This month we’re mixing it up a bit!  Not sure what flat light is? Wish you knew more about directional light? Now’s your chance to learn more!   Not only will Carrie be talking about her lighting techniques, but she would like to see what you’re doing with your lighting.  We will be taking images from members and putting them up on the big screen and discussing how great they are as well as ways to improve.  She’ll be discussing her own work plus some from masters of light, but this is a great chance to have your lighting techniques critiqued and your chance to ask questions.

ONE-DAY SEMINAR with Sam Gardner and Patricia Mathis

Achieving the most complimentary or story telling results is a lot easier when you understand how to best find or control lighting direction and quality. Sam and Patricia will demonstrate these ideas in multiple locations with models. Easy to remember ideas such as Sam’s “Boy Light” and “Girl Light” will help you master the skills to most efficiently use lighting and posing for the faces and figures in front of your camera. Selection of focal length and depth of field to enhance effects will become more clear as you see the differences with models. Sam and Patricia will use a combination of reflectors, strobes, and “natural” light during these sessions. There will be time for questions on site so specific concerns can be addressed.  If the space permits, Patricia will also be demonstrating some post production techniques in Nik Software and Photoshop.
